7 PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

From 1995 to present, specialist consultant, KCE Energy and Environment, in energy-conserving building design and environmental performance. Former licensed assessor Building Research Establishment Ecohomes sustainability rating scheme – the homes version of BREEAM. Provides energy analysis of architectural elements, electrical services, lighting, building services controls, heating, ventilation and water services, for public and commercial clients. Specialist in Building Regulations Part L1 and L2 (conservation of fuel and power). Has carried out many energy surveys and studies for housing, hospitals, industry, commercial and government sector. Gives presentations to business and local government on sustainable design and energy action.

From 1984 to 1995: Principal of the consulting practice, as Kinsella Consulting Engineers providing mechanical and electrical building services design, energy consultancy, and project management. Undertook many projects for leading contractors, major companies, and public authorities. Personally implemented quality control procedures, dealt with all concept design, carried out a proportion of detail design, and managed contracts. Design projects included 10 new or extended junior schools, hotels, conference centre, laundries, churches, and swimming pools.

From 1980 to 1984: with Whicheloe Macfarlane, Bristol, a multi-professional architectural/consulting practice. Associate/senior engineer responsible for technical direction of mechanical and electrical consultancy. Travelled to the Middle East and Nigeria handling client liaison and construction supervision and carried out electrical and lighting design in many projects, including the National Library of Nigeria, multi-storey car parks, floodlighting and road lighting, an international hotel and swimming pools. Produced software for air conditioning and lighting design.

1978 to 1980: with The Architects Collaborative Inc., USA, the architectural and interior design practice, where I was Resident electrical engineer for construction of the National Library and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Contract management, and responsible for redesign and detailing of electrical installation and lighting, including theatre lighting, to convert from USA standards to prevailing UK standards.

1976 to 1978: employed by Scott Houghton and Company, consulting building services engineers (part of Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick). Manager and Resident M & E Engineer of the Oman office dealing with design and construction contract management of building services (mainly electrical) in military and commercial projects. This work included generation stations and frequency conversion.

1974 to 1975: with Northaw Engineering Consultants, building services consultants, (then part of Architects Copartnership). Electrical Engineer working especially on major projects in Saudi Arabia. Designed lighting and electrical services for projects including hospitals, international exhibition and East Kilbride theatre.

1971 to 1974: Commercial Contracts Engineer with Eastern Electricity, electricity supply authority and contractor.

1970: Teacher, Physics to A-level standard, employed by Edmonton Council, north London.

1968 to 1970: Commissioning Engineer in industrial motor drives, with Berco Controls Ltd, manufacturer of motor controls.
