The North Somerset Cycle Campaign is a network of cyclists in North Somerset who wish to see a safer, more attractive and welcoming environment for cycling, whether for commuting, work, recreation or shopping.
Membership is free and we welcome all cycle users who wish to take part in the campaign.

The campaign acts as a resource to enable and encourage cycle users to:

  • SUPPORT - traffic calming, speed limits, cameras, home zones, quiet lanes
  • COMPLAIN - about dangerous road infrastructure (like traffic island pinch points on high speed roads, shared footpaths, stop-start cycle lanes etc etc)
  • REPORT - highway defects, potholes
  • PROVIDE ADVICE AND TIPS - on routes, black spots
  • FIND BIKE BUDDIES - to assist new commuters
  • ENCOURAGE - greater competence in cycling in traffic, training of children and adults
  • TRAIN children and adults in voluntary schemes
  • EXPLAIN the benefits of cycling to schools and other audiences.
  • HELP AND SUPPORT cycling initiatives
  • JOIN IN LOCAL COMMUNITY SCHEMES and raise the profile of cyclists as helpful people to have around - hence gain further support as well as doing good.
  • CONDEMN - illegal and dangerous cycling by a minority who give us all a bad name
  • SHARE INFORMATION - on trends and locations of poor cycling or driving practice, eg lack of signals when overtaking cyclists (driver signals are essential to enable following drivers to be aware of cyclist ahead, cycling on the pavement (dangerous, inconvenient, discourteous, illegal))
  • LIAISE with other campaign groups, police, overlapping interest groups such as pedestrians, Campaign for Protection of Rural England, Friends of the Earth, Local Agenda 21.
  • WRITE to newspapers to support cycling and stress its benefits for health, lifestyle and environment
  • ATTEND MEETINGS of campaigners and gather ideas for effective action
  • FIND INFORMATION and links on our WEBSITE
  • COMMUNICATE via our email group and GAIN CONTACTS with other like-minded people
  • FIND other cyclists to join in weekend or evening recreational rides
