This photo illustrates well the everyday enjoyment of cycling for health, utility, and leisure. But it was actually taken on 2004 Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride (BBR), in National Bike Week. Although BBR mainly uses North Somerset roads, our council has not so far supported either the bike ride or Bike Week. From 2007 there are signs they will take up the ready-made opportunity to market the benefits of cycling in accordance with the council's local transport plan.
This shows a "gateway to North Somerset" the woman and child in the photo above are cheerfully about to negotiate, as they leave the cycle path from the Avon bridge. What does this say about the attitude of our council to cycling?
