Reporting Potholes

Report potholes and all road maintenance hazards to highway.services@n-somerset.gov.uk headed ROAD DEFECT REPORT. Give the location of each hazard as accurately as you can and say so if it particularly dangerous.

Alternatively report in on North Somerset's new website called MAPpins. You can pinpoint a pothole or any other problem by clicking on the map. This goes to any scale and it works well: MAPpins http://gisweb.n-somerset.gov.uk/planaccess/mappins2_1.html

IF YOU SEE THE POTHOLE ON YOUR WAY BUT DON’T HAVE TIME TO STOP - write it down as soon as you can and send the report at the first opportunity, as best you can, e.g: “On B3133 going west from Yatton at Northend just before Bridge Inn, about 1 1/2 miles from Yatton centre, manhole about 1m from kerb dropped about 3 inches. Very dangerous on this busy road”

IF YOU HAVE TIME, perhaps when surveying a section of road for a series of hazards:

  1. Measure from a fixed point using your cycle computer - e.g “B3133 going west 1.65 miles from centre of Yatton railway bridge, 1.5 m from kerb - pothole approx 500mm diameter, 100mm deep.”
  2. If it is particularly dangerous, say so e.g “Extremely dangerous to cyclists under peak traffic conditions”
  3. Attach a photo if possible.
